2022 Dallas Cowboys Free Agency

Running Backs

Corey Clement—Twenty seven years old, and a solid special team’s contributor, who would be wise to take an offer with Dallas where his role and team expectations are clear and obvious to both parties.

Defensive Line

  • Randy Gregory—The highest priority this off-season in my opinion. It is certainly a little risky, but when he’s right we see just how special he is. In this defense he can really create matchup nightmares. As he just turned 29 in November, this is the deal that Gregory has been waiting for, so I’m comfortable with a nice four deal at a fair market salary for a talented pass rusher.
  • Brent Urban—Nice run stuffer who will need to take a similar offer if he is to return. Another player who they probably can wait until after the draft before making a decision on for 2022.
  • Carlos Watkins—has had some nice flashes as he has received more playing time than expected. Watkins was a nice signing last year and will test the market, but maybe the team can work something out.
  • Dorance Armstrong—With his rookie deal ending, Armstrong has certainly played well with an increase in snaps this season. It would be a beneficial move for both to come to terms on a second contract. Armstrong is a very good role player and a spot starter when needed.

  • Leighton Vander Esch— He has played well at times, but not nearly enough to warrant a contract anywhere close to what picking up his option would have cost. The best case for Dallas is that a talent-needy team (Detroit, Jacksonville or NY Jets) signs him to a deal and then Dallas would be in line for a compensatory pick in 2023.
  • Francis Bernard— (exclusive rights Free agent) A player I feel that Dallas should bring back as he has his role and the salary and control of his status works well in Dallas’ favor.
  • Luke Gifford— (restricted free agent) A good move would be to make the qualifying offer to keep Gifford for depth and rotational play.

  • Connor Williams—He is very likely another player whose projected contract numbers (10 million a year) and performance don’t match. It’s a salary crunching league and someone almost certainly will pay a higher salary for a battle tested player. That would mean it’s time to get another comp pick in 2023.

  • Maurice Canady—-He has offered very little in his performance, and certainly with the draft capital spent last year on defensive backs, Canady will be on to another team next season.

  • Bryan Anger—Has had a very good season (Pro Bowl) and should be locked up with a longer term deal.

Long Snapper

  • Jake McQuaide—Don’t know his name and that’s a good thing. Re-sign him.

Expected departures and possible replacement

  • Cedrick Wilson–WR  (Josh Reynolds (Det), Zay Jones (LV) or Adam Humphries (WFT))
  • Noah Brown–WR   (Simi Fehoko)
  • Dalton Schultz–TE  (Evan Engram)
  • Damontae Kazee–S  (Draft Pick)
  • Leighton Vander Esch–LB  (Draft Pick)
  • Maurice Canady-CB  (Brian Poole)
  • Carlos Watkins–DE   (Draft Pick)
  • Connor Williams–OG  (Connor McGovern)
